The Back Cover

Jan 25, 2020

Welcome back to our first episode of 2020!  Today we are saluting Sam Cooke.  Sam was a tremendous talent who performed both gospel and secular music during the 50's and 60's.  He came out of gospel and transformed rock and roll and R&B.  With his smooth sound and gospel roots, he developed the sound of SOUL.  In fact, he was dubbed the King of Soul and influenced everyone that followed in including Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Al Green and many others.  Not only was he a singer, songwriter and music entrepreneur but a civil rights activist.  He was popular all the way until his untimely death in 1964.

Later in the episode, can you believe we talk country music?
